- Check out awesome fan art from Michelle. She took custom, blank Funko figures and painted them to look like Josh, Ryder and Rex a la "Destination Truth" HERE
- Off topic, but here is the fan site runner (me) interviewing Scott Wilson and Andrew J West of "The Walking Dead" plus cosplaying fans about their perfect zombie hideouts. Please view it, "like" it and share it. Would mean a lot! CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO
With Josh still off the grid right now working on "Expedition Unknown" Season 2, here are some general and hopefully still exciting fan updates:
In honor of San Diego Comic Con around the corner, here are some moments with Josh Gates at past SDCC events, captured courtesy of this fan page:
Hi there, Truthies! If any of you are already situated on the social media landscape in terms of being a Josh fan, you already heard the great news. If this site is your only source of news, then a) thank you and b) WE WILL BE GETTING A SEASON 2 of "EXPEDITION UNKNOWN"! As was hinted in a previous post HERE, filming/scouting has already commenced and the sliver of photo that is shown is a background shot of some top secret stuff going down on location. Anyway, yay for us, Travel Channel and Ping Pong Productions!
Fans and alumni of the hit Syfy show "Destination Truth" are always doing amazing things to serve their community. Here are some fun and informative human interest pieces - one is one a fan of DT doing some good, and another is on a DT alumni cast member serving his fellow veterans.
Shawn Goodwin, as many big DT fans will recognize, served an important role as a Team Truth crew member. He has done many more admirable things in his life, which you can read about HERE, especially if you want to help him with his budding non-profit!
Season 1 of "Expedition Unknown" on Travel Channel (and Canada's DTOUR) is nearly coming to a close with the season finale in sight this coming week. Will we get a new season? Only time will tell. Just a reminder - you can purchase Season 1 on iTunes, as well as Amazon and Google Play.
The show has been met with much praise and according to Brad at the production company, viewer numbers have been good. For now, it looks like the only criticisms fans have had for the show are that they miss the ghost hunting/cryptids search elements, and they'd like the crew who follows him and helps make the show to be featured. Fans cannot deny the better quality of filming, the fact that each episode only focuses on one case, and because the episodes are less rushed, we get to see more of the destination, and humor is definitely not missing from EXU.
In the meantime, here's some news!

In this awesome interview the fan site got to do with Josh at the San Diego Travel & Adventure Show this past month, Josh chats about looking for new locations for “Expedition Unknown”, what happened with Destination Dinner, the fans, going to Canada, and lots of fun topics! Watch the whole video interview by clicking HERE. Otherwise, some fun sound bytes are transcribed below.
Amanda at SingularityFanPages.com: Which “Expedition Unknown” episode has had the best fan reactions that you’ve seen, so far?
Josh Gates: The Peru episode looking for the Lost Incan City. I just love that show because it feels like a real trek, it feels like a real adventure off into the unknown. Like the last episode of the Viking Sun Stone, we worried will it be too geeky…but people have been so complimentary about it.
Amanda: Will you ever be able to convince Erin Ryder to be a part of “Expedition Unknown”? Fans really are asking for her, and Ryder has seen and favorited a lot of tweets about the subject the last few weeks.
Josh: I don’t know if she would be available or convinced. I would book Ryder in a heart beat. She is amazing, and I always say it - she is such a cool travel partner, she’s like my girl Friday (because Josh has referenced this before: I believe this is a reference to the Cary Grant film “His Girl Friday”) I miss being out in the world with her, but you know. New project, new show, different show, so I would say “never say never”. If it isn’t this, it’s something else. I would love to work with her anytime. We were a great team.
Amanda: Are you the long lost twin brother of Chris Pratt? (asked because quite a few fans have compared his looks and often sense of humor with Josh’s)
Josh: No, but I would love to be! That guy is doing pretty good right now! He, I don’t know what happened there - I loved him from way back, and now he’s got this whole amazing thing going on. He’s just become overnight America’s action star, and he’s awesome at it. I have high hopes for Jurassic World, I know there are Indiana Jones rumors floating around about him. He deserves it. He’s hilarious.
Hi Truthies! I finally was able to get the technical issues sorted to edit and post 2 videos from the San Diego Travel & Adventure Show this past weekend. Video/audio from the interview is coming soon, as Friday the 13th seemed to have come a day late for me and one of the pieces of the interview was distorted, so I will salvage the audio and figure it out.
Check out the first video (link HERE) that starts with Josh meeting fans set to a beautiful song by my friend Paul's band, Hope for Icarus, followed by Josh sharing one of his hilarious travel stories from his book (link to book HERE). The other video is a funny blooper type vlog showing you guys how fun the Travel Show was, including some funny Josh moments (link HERE). Also, some more fan photos from the day are below, credit to Corinne, Dawn & Michael.
