![]() Josh Gates, our favorite intrepid explorer, has been on the air and sharing bits and pieces of his life with us since the early 2000's. It's crazy to think about! That's why I thought it would be cool to do some blogs on Top Moments from "Expedition Unknown." If you want in depth "Destination Truth" moments, funny quotes, and more exclusives, I would suggest supporting the fan site and getting a copy of the "Fan Guide to Destination Truth" by clicking here. Without further ado and to start this series off, here are my Top 3 most emotional or touching moments on "Expedition Unknown," so far. Moment Number 3 - Season 1, Episode 2 "Temple of Doom" - Early in the episode, Josh is visiting a historic preservation center and enters a room where he is surrounded by photos of victims of the Khmer Rouge. When it sinks in while looking at a photo of a young boy with a chain around his neck who knew he was going to die shortly after the photo was taken, Josh steps away from the camera for a moment of privacy. "Apologies," he says to the viewer. "Some things are too insane to understand." Moment Number 2 - Season 4, Episode 15 "The Ark of the Covenant" - During his search for this historic relic, Josh and associates find themselves in the Ethopian down of Axum (or Aksum), where it is said to be held at the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion. They make a first attempt to gain entrance into the church and see the Ark, and are told no. After a detour to a remote island to investigate claims of where the Ark was held prior, they return again and wait outside the back gates for a chance at seeing the main guardian of the Ark. He makes a rare appearance and exchanges words with Josh, through a translator. While they do not gain entrance to see the Ark, Josh is moved to learn that one of his colleagues has been coming to this church for over a decade and this is only his second time seeing the guardian, and he's never been this vocal before. Josh is elated by this encounter. Moment Number 1 - Season 2, Episode 9 "Secrets of Columbus" - In one of the most emotional moments we have ever seen from Josh, we see him pulled away from filming when his emergency satellite phone rings. When he returns to the camera, he is crying, but smiling. "I'm gonna need a minute. I just found out I'm gonna be a dad!" He exchanges hugs with his crew, jumps in the air and exclaims a loud "woo!" He narrates in a self deprecating manner that there is no crying in exploration, while also reflecting on learning about this new life while he is in the New World. It's a fantastic reality television moment and amazing that fans got to be there with Josh when he learned about this. Do you have a favorite emotional moment from the show? Just commented on his fb page how I'm enjoying England's vanished crown jewels. He cracked me up with the car and the hats. One of the best episodes ever!
