![]() In January of 2012, I sat down to a private brunch with Josh Gates, as his fan ambassador, in Los Angeles. We talked about many things. I remember him speaking about his career, and saying to me "Someday, DT will be canceled. It's an inevitability." I scoffed, smiled and said "of course". A little over two years later and we finally get the announcement, from Josh himself, that DT is done (read his heartfelt statement HERE). I was expecting this day to come, but I would be lying if I said I didn't have a lump in my throat the size of Texas and I was holding back tears in a Starbucks right now. 2014 has been a year of a lot of changes for me, so I suppose finally getting an answer about our favorite show not being continued concretes these changes for me. We finally get to mourn no new episodes of DT, but I advise my fellow fans to only be sad for a brief moment, if you can. First, we have five season of episodes to hang onto. HOURS of crappy food, bad vehicles, smart aleck humor, and mysteries. You can also add to it all the "Ghost Hunters" specials and episodes Josh was part of. Second, Josh isn't going anywhere, or any of the other cast members. They all will have other projects to do and for us to follow. Finally, and most importantly, the end of DT and all we have left of it, including Josh's inspiring book, should be a catalyst for you to adopt Josh's message of travel changing your life. Without Josh, I never would have made myself learn to build websites, to use social media platforms, to continue to have a reason to travel by myself far distances long after college had ended, especially when it meant reaching an unfamiliar destination where people I knew weren't just waiting there for me. I have made so many unbelievable friends in doing this fan work who live all over the country and have crossed so much off of my life's bucket list. I finally visited another country. I got to attend San Diego Comic Con, and on a free press pass for doing his fan work, which was crazy. I even met, what I feel to be, the love of my life at one of his meet ups I coordinated, and we are still together today. His words of inspiration, either personally to me or from his book or his tweets, are getting me through a period of adjustment in my life, too, which I am also grateful for. Through all of it, I look forward to Josh's and the other cast member's futures outside of DT because I've seen the way they treat fans and know they won't want to disappear from the public eye for fear of losing them. Especially Josh, who has NEVER been too busy for any fan. So I will definitely share a Josh quote that he would want me to say to you guys - "Go Away. Often."
