To my fellow Truthies aka "Destination Truth" fans -
It is no secret that our beloved show has been off the air for a very long time now. Though we get re-runs and many places around the world are now having access to episodes they have never seen before, as well as some seasons available on Netflix, Team Truth guided by Josh Gates has not, to our knowledge, been on or recorded any new adventures. As fan ambassador, I have personally tried to help put a bug in the ear of Syfy by doing everything from making a petition (by the way, petitionsare useless in saving TV shows since people can fabricate signatures and 2k people signing something is not enough to bring back a TV show), and I have even approached Syfy's President of Programming at the time while at an event in NYC to express how much people still loved the show. Despite the crowds that Josh Gates and other cast members, like Erin Ryder, pull in at conventions, plus the viewer numbers the show has gotten in the past, "DT" has been in a perpetual state of hiatus. If the show has been canceled, either Josh Gates has not been informed, or he has and has been told that he will not be allowed to be the first person to tell anyone about it on a public platform. You can see some of the proof I have to support my hype of the show within this paragraph HERE. If we measure the numbers from Season 4 through Season 5, the minimum 0.726 Million to over a Million viewers per premiere episode do not appear to be worth informing us if our show is ever coming back. The Syfy network was quick to kill their 2013 reality show "Fangasm" by steadily moving each premiere episode to a later time slot, then combining the last two episodes of the now only surviving season to one night and airing it after midnight. I understand your frustrations. As fan ambassador since 2008 and having a pretty close but professional relationship, even as just a fan and non-Syfy employee, with some of the cast members, including Josh, I have been a fellow hardcore fan of the show. I have a hard time understanding why it is so hard to make a decision about "DT", or to at least tell the fans. Josh has obviously been a mainstay of the network for years, so perhaps they fear telling us anything until they decide what to do with his fate. I have had private conversations in the past with certain parties about potential Josh projects I am hopeful come to light, and I have even publicly tweeted the idea of a highlight special in the kin of ones done for "Ghost Hunters", as well as Travel Channel's "Ghost Adventures", but no dice. Regardless, I too hope that 2014 will be the year we can either be excited about new episodes, or get to properly mourn "DT"s announced death. As devoted viewers, we should get as much. Also, if it has not been made clear already, please do not harass or guilt Josh Gates about when the show is coming back. It is not within his control, as the show is funded and aired by Syfy through NBC/Universal. Sincerest wishes for a happy new year - Amanda.
