JOSH GATES: Hey folks, can you hear me, can you hear me? Yes? You can hear me? Alright.

*cheering from the crowd*

JOSH: I'd like to welcome you all to, uh, wherever it is we are now. The Lido Deck. Um, are we technically even at Comic Con in this building?

*crowd cheers*

JOSH: I'd like to begin today by talking to you about the pressures of being a Comic Con moderator. This job used to be easy - I used to come down here, do a small room, ask the panelists some easy questions, pretend to be interested in the answers. Then do what I really came down here to do, which is to go to the Syfy party and flirt with the girls from "Battlestar Galactica."

*crowd cheers and catcalls*

JOSH: Not anymore! Nope. It's crazy now! Every single moderator in every single panel tries to out-do every other panel! How am I gonna compete with Angelina Jolie?

*crowd cheers and catcalls*

FAN FROM AUDIENCE: You're better!

ANOTHER FAN FROM AUDIENCE: You're sexier!

JOSH: I'm not! I appreciate it, but I'm not.

*crowd laughs and cheers*

AMANDA (off-camera): Okay, we meet again.

JOSH: We do.

AMANDA: Just wanted to say really quick - you have the necklace on.

JOSH: Oh, I do today - that's true!

AMANDA: The iconic necklace. Maybe I'll have to weasel some close shots for you [referencing the viewers]

JOSH: It's very dangerous, don't get too close to it (laughs)

AMANDA: I won't - I'll blow up. I will blow up. So, what is your favorite location for this season?

JOSH: Um, we did an episode in Micronesia on an island that´s now called Chuuk, it used to be called Truk.  It's an underwater episode with a Japanese fleet from World War II, and I'm a dive nut, and it's just some of the best wreck diving in the world. So for me, that was probably the number one spot of the season.

AMANDA: Yeah.

JOSH: We also went to cambodia and I'm a southeast Asia guy, too, so I

love it there.

AMANDA: Okay.

JOSH (at the podium): Yesterday, Michael Cera did one of these things in a Captain America costume – do you have to be kidding me?!

*crowd laughs and cheers*

JOSH: Well, thank God for The Hollywood Reporter, which yesterday published an article for moderators like me, entitled “How Not to Screw up a Comic Con Panel.” it's true, and I'm about to follow this document to the letter. First thing you have to do is make a big announcement, you've gotta drop a bombshell! Alright? I've been to many of these panels and if you don't make a big announcement, you're written off as a failure. So I'm gonna start today with a big announcement. (pauses for a beat) Amanda Tapping [of “Sanctuary”] and I are lovers.

*crowd cheers and catcalls*

JOSH: Tweet it! Tweet it, get it out there! This will come to a surprise

to a great many of you, including Amanda's husband. You demanded an

exclusive, and I hope you're happy!

AMANDA (off camera): And what is the worst illness or injury you personally have gotten?

JOSH: uh, I think the worst illness i've ever had is this season,

actually. In Micronesia as well on a different island called Pohnpei, I got

really, really ill. Really ill. So a lot of vomiting – we have some of it

on film and I'm not sure if it's gonna make air.

AMANDA: (laughs) That has to make air, come on now!

JOSH: It's pretty graphic, it's pretty graphic.

AMANDA: That's what it's about - you guys eat bull penis and you're

telling me about graphic stuff on the show (laughs)

JOSH: Yeah, I just, I really got ill, so, we'll see how much of it stands

to air (laughs)

JOSH (on podium): Because at this very moment, there's a “Green Lantern”

panel that I also feel particularly threatened by, I would like to announce

that Robin Dunne [a MALE actor from “Sanctuary”] and I (pause) are lovers.

*crowd cheers and catcalls*

JOSH: Are you guys ready to follow this document [referring to article]

and make this the best Comic Con panel ever?!

*crowd cheers loudly*

AMANDA: Um, so a question a lot of fans had and I even have it to, so I'll

nag you about it – why haven't you updated your personal website in a long time?

JOSH: That's a great question. I uh what I've been meaning to do is

actually take it down because I want to hire a web firm to come in and do

a sort of re-design of the whole thing. I've been meaning to do it for a

long time and I want to kind of be able to make it a bit more of a blog

and be able to write from the road and post to it remotely and have it be

more interactive while traveling since travel is such a big part of what I

do

AMANDA: Mmhmm - yeah

JOSH: I don't have the ability to kind of self design that, so – stay

tuned, I'm gonna try to get someone this summer to get into it and help me out with it.

AMANDA: Alright-

JOSH: but I appreciate the nagging – it needs to be done! I need to be

nagged about it.

AMANDA: Yeah, because everyone's like “it's the old SciFi logo”-

JOSH: I know, it's true.

(random shots around press room)

AMANDA (off-camera): Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks?

JOSH: uh, for what?

AMANDA: for coffee, I guess?

JOSH: for coffee, I'm gonna go (pause) with Starbucks, for pastries, I'm

gonna go with Dunkin Donuts.

AMANDA: So hard, I know.

JOSH (DIFFERENT CAMERA SHOT, SAME ROOM) – I follow up, you know, I don't think I use it [Twitter] to the best of it's abilities. I-

CHRISTIANE – Well every time you [inaudible] (laughs) -

JOSH – I follow up on about maybe 30 or 40 people on there, I follow a lot more. There are just so many interesting people on it. Part of the problem with Twitter is, it's kind of like, it's dedicated to kind of really
figuring out whose on it, you know? Because the interface for it is not such that it really lends itself to discovering new people. Sometimes it does, but I'm, i use though here and there when I'm in the states. I'd like to use it more when I'm overseas, but it's difficult to interface [inaudible]. But we're always looking for ways to update the fans in real time and do stuff from overseas, so we're look into ways to use Twitter.

CHRISTIANE: Because I have to say, when you do the Q&A-

JOSH: Yeah-

CHRISTIANE: or when you did the quiz thing, I think that was brilliant.

JOSH: Thanks!

CHRISTIANE: So you should do more of that, if you'd like (laughs)

JOSH: Good, okay, thanks!

AMANDA: And you're new Twitter rumor is that Robin Dunne is your new secret boyfriend?

JOSH: (fake lisp) That's not a rumor!

AMANDA: I didn't get that on video, I was so mad, I was like - you got it? [to Christiane] Good, good job, high five!

JOSH (off camera): Thank you guys for coming, I really appreciate it.

JOSH (on the podium): Folks, thank you all very much for coming today. We really appreciate it. The channel insists that I show this to you [points to "Destination Truth" promo on screen]

AMANDA (off-camera): Some fans ask what kind of car do you drive?

JOSH: That's sort of an embarrassing answer - I drive a Prius, which I feel kind of goes against the character, right? Like I should have some old- I'll tell you what I want to drive, I want an old Land Rover Defender, but I gotta [inaudible] import, the steering wheel is on the wrong side, and it may not make California emissions, but I'm trying to figure out a way to import a Defender. Get rid of that Prius and start wasting gas again.

(the chunk of video until the end where the camera directly faces Josh for the finish of our interview consists of me playfully ribbing Christiane that she forgot her recorder on the table in the press room, saying "bye" to Josh and me teasing her that she did it on purpose so she could go back to sneak behind him)

AMANDA (off-camera): Alright.

JOSH: To the fans of "Destination Truth" - I really appreciate your support and stay tuned for a great season ahead. Thank you!

AMANDA: Alright, thank you!
